Why do you call them male and female.

Because it's the technical, scientific term used to describe beings who are biologically male and female, though this does not refer to the social construct of gender, which has a whole spectrum of definitions. Applying the term "male" and "female" to biology is the same as applying the term "lung" or "liver" to other organs. We do it because it's easier to understand a universal definition, especially in areas like science where it's important for everyone to be on the same page during say, an operation. If a doctor decided to rename the lung an "ung", just because he damn well felt like it, you can bet something could go wrong if he's trying to communicate with nurses or whoever else, while dealing with someone's health.

That is why I refer to them as male and female. But you did not answer my question.

I think what he meant with his reply is that fae and mae is crazy Australian lingo for the same words? I tried to look up online definitions and it turned up empty.

Its not really Aussie, Its just old time speak. Never heard anyone say Mae though, Fae is just the same as femme or female so I assume Mae is the same as male.

As a wordsmith, I take great pleasure in bending the usual constructs of language, even outright breaking them and sifting amongst the remaining pieces.

It is not as if we are talking in a professional setting. If we were, I would adhere to proper vernacular, and Cielo would be dismissed.

That is why I 'call them mae and fae'.
