As in 'they are data mining' or as in they have their own webpage on there? In either case I suppose I'm not really surprised. Please elucidate though! =3

And I'd like to suggest to admin that we move this to the general or serious discussion thread. ^^
It's probably got a name like the National Registry Survielance Service or something stupid, but they have a whole department of people who study the information on Facebook.

FB releases all info to them. Everything.

Why not?

They study most social networking sites because ... well, why not? People literally put their information up for you to read! If I were an intelligence bureau or had some stake in tracking people down, I'd be doing the same thing. You have a picture of some dude wanted for murder, but you don't know much about him-- Oh wait, there he is! He has a MySpace and oh look, there's all his and everyone he's connected to!

Don't say that's stupid because if you stop and actually think about it, it makes perfect sense.

Again. Don't put shit up you don't want people reading, and you're fine.

Not to mention if they'd done that kind of thing 5 years ago they could be stopping these people that go online and brag about how they're going to shoot up their school next week... then actually do it.

<_< I think he was referring to the bureau's name, not it's purpose. Ie. Substitute "ridiculous" for "stupid" .

But, yeah, you're point about using the info people provide willingly is well taken.

Actually, someone I was talking to thinks Facebook is actually an invention of the FBI. I know what the official story is but who's to say?! ;3

Oh.

No.

When I say "Don't say it's stupid" I meant my reasoning for why they would monitor it xD
