Bytown furry Convention 2010, In Ottawa

The best board to come to if you have an idea in the works. Planning something big but haven't made it official yet? Drop a line here, maybe someone can help turn your idea into a reality!

Most of the attendees will be local. Most of the ones that come from out of town will probably have alternate motives for coming down that weekend thus probably have sleeping arangements with friends.

As Kesslan mentioned we shall have a list of possible hotel/motels within reasonable distance. While we say we will not be geting a block rate at a hotel due to the probability of too few people, i for one would love to be proven wrong and if we see a large portion of out of town preregistrations or a high demand for the hotel block rate on the forums there is still plenty of time to apply for one.

Just so that people get on my back about this if i seem to be taking my sweet time and slaking off i will mention the following. Although the convention is a year away, i am treating it as if it were in 6 months, and hope to have everything other then the advertisement and sign ups done 6 months before the actual due date.

Sounds like an excellent choice of venue to me. You're taking into account that it's just starting and won't have a lot of attendees and most of them will be local and won't need hotel services.

In future years, if you do well, that much change and you can start providing that when it's apparent it's needed. Right now, it's a good way to save money--which helps a lot to ensure you'll want to run the convention again the next year.

Yes. With so many new conventions the same year, there will be fewer attendees at each one--obviously people won't be able to afford to go to all of them and that needs to be taken into account.

Anthrofest had around 110 attendees. C-ACE only got to 200 on their 3rd year, I believe. FA: United had around 300, but they also had more than 3 times the population to work with. In both cases, that was without having multiple cons starting in the same area.

Without the competition, I'd say 100 for sure, but with it, I'd guess around 70. That's giving a loss of 10 attendees for each competing convention. It's really hard to judge though as I don't see any precidence for that many new conventions starting in the same area. Usually I see one group starting a convention and then everyone going to it.

Actually if we are able to reach the righ tpeople I don tthink it's excessive to expect abit closer to 100 people. Present furry meets have drawn upwards of some 50 furries, and their by and large 'new' people.

We have since found that the old C-ACE era furries are still around in rather notable numbers and have been trying to get the word out amongst them as well, as none of them apparently come here and many are mistakenly under the impression that Ottawa's furry community is strictly a 30's+ group when the vast majority of active members are ranging between 18 and 25.

Our local greymuzzles have grown quiet over the last while. I suppose they've been too busy giving massages with metal rods and showing up alone to trance shows.

Well, I've just made an image with directions and a map, so I'm set for directions. Now I just need a job and a fursuit!!
Find me alone, It's only a scar
Show me, the one you found
I've got a grudge, so keep me bound

I'm all alone, sitting here
They said I'm the one they fear
The shadow in the night
I'll never stop and fight
