I've only been to Montreal once, and we only had time to hit a few stores before the concert we were there to see started.

One of the stores though was a Gamestop (I'd never seen one before, they weren't really in Ottawa yet) and that place tainted my view of Gamestops ever since xD

The prices for ordinary games were fine, they had the standard "1 for 15, 2 for 20" on used games and whatnot... but their older games were ridiculous. They didn't have a single NES game that wasn't under $50 save for Mario 1 that was 'only' $25. Ogre Battle 64 was $250, even Chrono Trigger was $100 without a box or instructions. I mean, I looked a bunch of the games there and they were grossly overpriced, the fact I'd bought Ogre Battle 64 a few months earlier for $15 just made it that much more pathetic to see it for $250.

A few of the clothing stores were pretty pathetic in terms of proper pricing as well. You hit Montreal and everything seems to double in price... though I hear the housing there is cheaper, never looked myself. That's one thing I hate about big cities though, you have to pay a premium for stuff just because you're in a big city.

thats because you've only been there once.

i lived there for a year. there's plenty of good deals there, as well as tons of really neat, different, stuff for the prices of normal stuff.

you just have to check a few places out. and eat and drink along the way when something strikes your fancy.

Growing up in Sydney I agree that, downtown, everything is 300% the normal prices. But if you know what shops to go to and where to go, you can actually make out like a bandit.

I like the idea of exploring Montreal for such things.

Montreal can be more expensive. We were walking along St. Catherine which is near the bus terminal and is pretty much a tourist area (Like Rideau St.). So yeah, everything would be more expensive there to take advantage of people like that.

Also, Meer, it wasn't a GameStop. As far as I could tell, it was an independent store. I went back last time I was there. They've gotten rid of that case full of ancient systems and their selection isn't what it used to be.

Oh.

For some reason I was certain it was a Gamestop... ah well. The point stands xD

Mario 1 is not worth $25.
