Oww.. I couldn't help it!

I'm a lover of mathematics [and to a lesser extent, computing] due to it's solid rock definates. It just works. Triginometry works. Quadratics work. Algebra works.

In a less stringent way, computing is similar. Computers do what they do what they do. They are built with the human brain in mind, they do as they are supposed to [mostly].

Everything else? Bullshit. Polished, brand new and improved, government sealed and Pope blessed, bullshit.

The fluff keeps people interested as well. The primary goal of any media outlet, be it a newspaper, TV station, radio station or whatever is to SELL ADVERTISEMENT SPACE. A while ago, when Canwest (the Citizen's parent company) were going under, we got a nice little video in from head office where the CEO of Canwest said just that: the purpose of a media outlet is to sell adverts. Consider the following. I overheard a conversation as I passed the newsroom on my way to work the other day where someone was noting that in this past Saturday's paper, about 60% was news, the rest was all advertisement.

The more news they can put in a paper, the more ad space they can create and the more money they can make. That's why it often feels padded in the paper and on TV. The longer you run, the more ads you can throw in.
