Why me?

Something bugging you? Got a cause you want to let people know about? Then climb up on the soapbox and make yourself heard.

Why me?

Blah, I just need to short rant somewhere.

"Mom, can I go to Purrliament? Peter's going to be there!

"Mom, I really want to go to Camp Feral!"

"Mom, can I go to a meeting over the weekend? Peter's gonna be there! It's for furries! ^^"

Want to guess the replies I get? [Note that Peter is one of my close friends xD. You'll see him in the pictures of Purrliament]

Well it's automatically...they don't even think about it they say "No." I have two wonderful diverse/eco-friendly Moms who well, pretty much won't let their son meet with people like them.

Okay, sure they've seen media on them but they've only seen the bad kind! CSI. A man was dressed up in that lady cat costume. You know what? He probably did the murder, you wanna know why? Cause he's a furry ):. It's discussed in classrooms all the time. Are Furries dangerous? Yes. [Take a Media course ):] Why? Because they're horndogs wanting to prey upon younger people who don't know better. [Note: this is not my thoughts on Furries xD It's what some other people think.]

I'd like to pull up Zets in this topic. He walks around with a fursuit. Zets = Hardcore Furry. In all of those pictures he's taken there's always a child smiling, or anything! Everyone's happy around him. You know why? Cause he's a furry. And no he doesn't prey upon younger generation for sex...Or so I think.

Ugh, I'm getting off topic. Anyways it's because these meetings or anything have something to do with Furries. I mention the word furry in a hangout and the answer is a No. When I told them I was homosexual, they told me of a good place to meet people like me and to have friends who are queer identified. WHy can't it be like that. "Hey mom I'm furrtabulous!" and they can be all "Oh sweety, you can go out and chill with other people with you.

I also think it's the older age thing. Well to my parents, dressing up as Furries when you're an adult is 'weird.'

Ugh I don't know what else to do or say.

Don't get me wrong, my moms are the best in the world! I love them dearly it's just...

They could be a bit more understanding.

The SAD part about all this is that, you think that when you get older, they (parents) will let go and do your own thing.

HELLZ NO!!! They never let go... we'll not in my case, anyway. I mean, yeah, you get more freedom, but then they get more nosy and demand to know everything that's going on with you.

I feel your pain, Benjy!

No, I'm 25, I can do whatever I want within the bounds of Canadian law and the moral expectations of society. :D

Though you could try going to something anime instead.  I'm running an event in the same style as Purrliment on March 14th.  Same location, same setup, only with 100 people, 5 rooms in use, dealers and possibly a Street Fighter IV tourny even.

...Though I'm off to a meeting now to finalize the plans for that. :D

You could lie to your parents.  It worked really well for me for when I lived at home.

I find the best lie is the one that is closest to reality.  Tell them you're hanging out with friends.  From work.  From school.  Whatever.  Never mention furries.

Or just go out... Take the bus and leave.  No need to tell them where you're going.  Or that you're going anywhere at all.

Then I suggest you use your spare time to become a theoretical physicist and create the first functioning teleportation device.

BECOME one? In CUMBERLAND?

You're potentially asking the kid to build a water fountain whilst he'd be stuck in an arid desert.

"They're waiting for you, Kasuke. In the test chamber..."

All silliness aside, it's not up to them, and they needn't concern themselves with it.
Furs make the mistake in thinking that furriness is a sexuality, something that really defines your entire life.
Furriness is a lifestyle (not necessarily a voluntary one, but one nonetheless), and a weird one at that. If people don't want to understand, they won't, you just have to either slowly bring them around or not bother them with it.
Amidst the mists and fiercest frosts,
With barest wrists and stoutest boasts,
I thrust my fists against the posts,
And still insist I see the ghosts.
