Fear for your planet, rude dudes

Postby Pooshie » 14 Jan 2009, 15:30

Hey guys!  Seriously guys!  Planet Smashers will be at Mavericks on February 12th.  Who wants to go?  Show's just 15 bucks.  It's on a Tuesday night.

I saw them live before.  It's a wonderful experience.  Full of sweat, skank pits and bright orange jumpsuits.

I realise I used a lot of esoteric words here, so I'll be a bit more forward with it; it's a ska band >.>

From Montreal none the less!

Songs to listen as a tryout: Ska of Iran, Bullet to the Groud, Hey Hey

I'm more than willing to try. Gotta tell a friend of mine, he'll go insane.
Amidst the mists and fiercest frosts,
With barest wrists and stoutest boasts,
I thrust my fists against the posts,
And still insist I see the ghosts.

Ska doesn't have any sort of stigma under it.  If you've hear Bob Marley, then you've heard a chill version of Ska.

Today, it's mostly exceedingly upbeat punk.  The regular instruments include Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Trumpets and Saxophone.  Look up the songs I suggested Wi.

"Ska is Dead" is now-a-days widely accepted as a fact.  It rarely plays on the radio, shows are scarce and most bands are breaking up. It's still very fun music to listen and dance to.  Despite what Meer says.  He just has no soul with which to love.

But yeah.  You're likely to meet people from the Punk scene at ska shows.  Usually wearing brighter colours.  The type of dancing is odd... and it's called skanking.  It involves a lot of flailing.

To conclude this little post; Ska is the opposite of Emo.

I would like to interject and say that Bob Marley is classic Reggae. Ska is typically upbeat punk fused with reggae influences and horns. Take bands like the Mighty Might Bosstones as an example.

Well, it's funny Ironklaw.

Ska is actually older than Reggea, so it's hard to state that it has Reggea influences.  Ska evolved to Rocksteady which evolved into Reggea.

But your point still stands.  Today, that's what ska sounds like.

Ska is one or all of the following things:

    Loud
    Brass
    Skankin'
    Energy
    OI OI OI
    Songs about gang wars
    More brass
    Catchy hooks
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
Amidst the mists and fiercest frosts,
With barest wrists and stoutest boasts,
I thrust my fists against the posts,
And still insist I see the ghosts.
