Capital Furs

Its been brought up in the past, and again just recently. Should the contact info be publicly viewable by members who haven't joined our forums?

Some may argue that if you put info up on the boards then its your risk to take.

Others may say that hiding such info keeps our community safe.

In reality, any footprint left in the sands of the all mighty interwebz is a risk, and can generally be found by those who want to find it. The best way to keep your info from falling into the wrong hands is to only give it out to people you trust. Never the less, there is sensitive information on the boards. Should something be done about it?

Without locking out the existing boards, or resorting to have to personally verify every new member, I propose moving all contact and information threads into their own, new, hidden category. That way at a glance, someone who doesn't belong to the forum, wont necessarily be able to find it.

A Personal choice would be I Don't really trust anyone till proven wrong, Might as well give them a chance. Besides Who else would be on a forum for furs but Furs and Griefers.. I love Furs and Griefers arn't worth a secodn thought, Who would Stalk me Anyway XD

i think that sensative info should be locked out of the public eye for shure. we dont want trolls to contact us.

As much as I firmly believe its up to the user's own discretion with his or her information, stronger safety steps don't really hurt to be put in place anyways. So even if we did move and hide all the personal info what does it really effect? Members can still look it up if they need it, not to mention if someone REALLY wants the info, all they have to do is join.

So no matter how much security you put in place, just be smart with your info is the key message.

Oh and I'm actually FOR hiding the contact info FYI, no harm in doing it really.

my stance on this is pretty clear

yes freedom is wonderful. risk is inherent. yeah yeah yeah.

but we're not talking about our civil rights. its a ottawa fur message board. not a big deal.

most importantly, NOT worth some lunatics tricking some sweet kid into being in the wrong place and fucking him up really bad. for fun. or for the 60 bucks in his wallet. or a camera.

i think it should be totally removed from the board. have one trusted person keep the whole list. everyone sends him updates.

but in all seriousness, thats a good point. i don't know. i guess keeping it hidden is the best compromise. but anyone can get a membership instantly. means its not secure. i'm not sure whats best, but i don't think any convenience is worth a severe mugging.

i don't have the ideal solution. i just think it should be taken down for now until we come up with one.
